WARLOCK
DVD region 2. Second Sight.

Warlock17th Century Boston, and captured Warlock (Julian Sands) is about to face his execution at the hands of Witchfinder Gyles Redferne (Richard.E.Grant). Summoning all his dark powers the Warlock escapes to 20th Century L.A where he must find the three parts of the Satanic Bible that holds the forgotten name of God. If he says the name all creation will be undone, but Redferne is hot on his heels with the help of Kassandra (Lori Singer) who’s apartment the Warlock landed in and has cursed with an ageing spell.

It's undemanding B movie fun from Director Steve Miner (Friday The 13th pt’s II and III, House), with an early script from David Twohy (Pitch Black). Julian Sands revels in the bad guy role and Richard E Grant sporting a wobbly Scots accent and a bad mullet makes for an unlikely action hero. Lori Singer does well in an underwritten part and the film zips along at a good rate with some nice touches such as the chase in the train yard where Singer hammer’s nails into the footprints of the Warlock. The special effects are dated but really pretty good for the time. OK, it’s formulaic and lacks depth, but as a B Movie to sit back and have a couple of beers to, you could do a lot worse!

Second sights disc is pretty decent picture wise overall but what about the extras? Well you get…nada, zip, nothing! I’m sure they could have put a couple of featurettes on there as the film has a decent sized cult following. Never mind - at least the film has finally managed to make it to Region 2 DVD.
