REDTRACK - THE TRIER
(Fandango)

RedtrackThe NME reckons Redtrack are ‘perky indie-punk’, which tells you just how clueless that rag is when it comes to… well, anything. The band themselves think they are a cross between Girls Aloud and The Clash, and as that immediately makes me think of something absolutely awful, they might be right.

Let’s be honest – there is nothing in this three-track that has anything to do with punk, past or present. Instead, this is ghastly, self-conscious indie pop from a thoroughly unoriginal bunch of chancers. Title track The Trier is very trying, while ballad Anything is possibly the dullest thing I’ve heard in years. Middle track Catch Me Out is at least bouncy, but it’s nothing you haven’t heard a million times before from other indie bands with overly-laboured haircuts and matching shirts cranking out by-the-numbers rubbish.

I’m sure they’ll soon be huge.
