I
know what you're thinking - not another
zombie film? But bear with us. This one sounds
more interesting than most.
Zombie
Apocalypse is a collaboration between
El Mariachi producer Carlos Gallardo and Teenage
Mutant Ninja Turtle creator and Heavy
Metal magazine publisher Kevin Eastman,
to be directed by Chee Keong Cheung. The film
combines horror, action, war and mixed martial
arts, and is produced by UK based Intense Productions.
What
makes this interesting is that it is planned as
a multi-media project. As well as being the start
of a projrected trilogy of films, it will also
be a graphic novel and computer game - an ambitious
concept for an unfilmed indie horror movie.
Writer
and Director Chee said "I’m incredibly
excited and very honoured to be working with both
Carlos and Kevin on the production. Their work
speaks for itself, both having had incredible
success with the franchises they’ve created.
They’ve been hugely inspirational. Having
been fascinated by zombie and war films I felt
a fusion of the two, combined with martial arts,
would provide a unique experience for film fans,
and the opportunity for a unique action-packed
event movie and Carlos and Kevin’s formidable
experience in successful genre movies will help
me realise that vision."
All
three men are at Comic-Con this weekend, where
the promotional campaign kicks off. The film itself
is due to shoot later this year.
