The
demented 3D sequel / reboot of Hong Kong softcore
favourite Sex and Zen - the clumsily
titled Sex and Zen 3D: Extreme Ecstacy
is coming to the UK with two minutes of sex cut from
it.
The
film, which has been passed uncut by censors in Australia,
New Zealand and Canada, has fallen foul of the BBFC's
fixation with sexual violence and (arguably) their
toughening up of attitudes. The British are, after
all, much more easily influenced by what they see
on screen that anyone else.
Distributors
Metrodome have been forced to cut scenes of 'non-consensual'
and 'violent' sex, which are, by all accounts, presented
in the slapstick style that only Hong Kong filmmakers
can still get away with. Potential viewers will be
glad to hear that apparently all the shots of giant
penises remain intact.
UPDATE:
Sex
and Zen 3D has, unsurprisingly, been saddled
with the restrictive NC-17 rating in the US. Thanks
to America's rather ridiculous ratings system, this
is the only age-restrictive movie rating and, despite
having changed back in the 1990's from the X rating
that came to symbolise hardcore porn to most people,
the rating still sees films routinely refused cinema
space and press advertising. To make things worse,
most of the independent cinemas that might have taken
the film are not equpped to show 3D movies. So US fans
will need luck on their side if they want to catch
it in it's eye-popping glory on the big screen. At
least it'll be uncut though.
