Fans of late 80s / early 90s Manchester indie pop will no doubt be thrilled skinny at the thought of the new epic box set from James, The Gathering Sound, which is released on December 10th.

While never quite in the same league as the likes of The Happy Mondays or The Stone Roses (James' embracing of Madchester seemed more opportunistic than anything else), the band certainly came up with a handful of decent indie pop hits at their peak. Now you enjoy pretty much everything they've ever done in a luxurious collectors box.

The album sized box contains three CDs – one with live rarities, one with studio rarities and one combining the albums The Morning After and The Night Before – and a 12 inch vinyl disc feature demos from Gold Mother, as well as a DVD of Come Home, their Manchester show from 1992.

There is also a 4GB USB stick that holds all their albums and non-album tracks, a couple of booklets, plus art cards, button badges and replica back stage passes. In all, the collection contains 32 unreleased recordings.

To coincide with the release, James will be on tour in the Uk during April with Echo and the Bunnymen.
