If you like the classic TV series Ripping Yarns – and who doesn’t – then you are sure to be excited by the forthcoming Ripping Yarns Hopathon.

To mark the DVD release of the series, and as homage to the episode Tomkinson's School Days, Network DVD are looking to recruit members of the public to set a World Record for the largest group 400 metre hop as well as a 400 metre relay hop. Yes, there is such a thing.

Taking place at the Hampstead Heath Athletics track on Saturday 3 March, the event will see Michael Palin and Terry Jones in attendance to present prizes to the overall winners and their chosen charities.

To break the existing record, 250 people need to take part (which rather makes you wonder what sort of event took place to set the existing record), and needs a set time of seven minutes to achieve the fastest 400 metre hop on one leg.

Participants must be over 18 years of age and in sound physical health (no such restrictions on your mental capacity though…). Full details about registration are available at facebook.com/NetworkDVD – so hop to it!
