Vivid are about to embark on their latest Seventies adult movie remake, following new versions of Deep Throat, The Devil in Miss Jones and Debbie Does Dallas.

Having secured the rights to the iconic Mitchell Brothers production Behind the Green Door at the start of the year, the company are now going ahead with The New Behind the Green Door – a needlessly cumbersome title. As with the earlier remakes, it’ll be helmed by veteran director (and performer) Paul Thomas, which suggests – if the earlier films are anything to go by – that it’ll bear only a passing resemblance to the original film, with more sex, more pretty but generic porn stars and less darkness. It probably won’t have a psychedelic cum-shot at the end either.

But let’s not pre-judge – we at Strange Things are not the sort to have knee-jerk reactions against remakes, and if these films are to work for a new generation, rather than simply Golden Age nostalgists, then changes obviously need to be made, although I do think that, given the iconic status of these movies both within and without the porn industry, an opportunity is being missed to produce genuine cross-over films rather than high-end hardcore.

Casting for the new film takes place on June 20th (so if you are in Los Angeles and looking to become a star, pop along…) and Marilyn Chambers’ daughter McKenna Taylor (pictured) will be on hand to help select the lead role.
