After
killing off The Human
Torch, Marvel continue to use The Fantastic Four
to grab headlines by announcing that Spider-Man will
be joining the three surviving members in a new team.
Stuck
with the dreadful name The Future Foundation, the
team will star in their new comic book FF,
with sparkly white costumes - including Spidey!
While
this is hardly the first time that Spider-Man has
had a new costume, you have to wonder just what Marvel
are playing at with their most iconic and recognisable
character, and with his existing involvement with
The Avengers and his own assorted books, this feels
like overkill. And how will this work? Will Spidey
change costumes en-route to FF assignments? It seems
like a potential continuity clusterfuck.
Of
course, Spider-Man has form with the FF, having first
tried to join up 48 years ago, and he's been a regular
co-star with the Torch over the years. But how long
this new team will last probably depends on how long
story creators Jonathan Hickman and Steve Epting -
not to mention the fans - stay interested before more
news stories can be generated by the miraculous return
of the Torch.
The
new book goes on sale at the end of March.
