Eureka are re-releasing a handful of their back-catalogue – hard to get since the Sony warehouse fire in August – as dual format DVD and Blu-ray editions on February 13th.

The films include titles from the acclaimed Masters of Cinema series, and are:

Mad Detective – a 2007 supernatural cop film from Hong Kong

The World - Jia Zhangke’s look at the lives of circus performers in China

Tokyo Sonata
- Kiyoshi Kurosawa’s bleak look at unemployment in Japan

Une Femme Mariée – Jean-Luc Godard’s long out-of-circulation 1964 classic, complete with an 80-page booklet!

La Planete Sauvage (pictured) – better known as Fantastic Planet, this is René Laloux’s ground-breaking, trippy animated French science fiction film from 1973

Vengeance is Mine - Shohei Imamura’s brutal true crime story

Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter
– Frank Tashlin’s classic comedy with Tony Randall and Jayne Mansfield

The Burmese Harp
- Kon Ichikawa’s classic anti-war drama

As you would expect, these discs come complete with extensive extras – documentaries, commentaries, promo clips, short films, promo clips, booklets and more.

The Masters of Cinema series has become an essential part of any serious cineaste’s collection – very much the UK’s answer to Criterion in terms of presentation and choice of movies – so it’s great to see these essential classics widely available again.
