If
there is one thing that producer Alain Siritzky clearly
doesn't believe, it's that less is more. The man who
owns the Emmanuelle
franchise has been churning out increasingly anonymous
and forgettable extensions to the series for over
25 years now, and shows no sign of stopping. A new
series of nine movies has just been announced for
release.
As
with more or less every film in the series to emerge
since 1988's Emmanuelle 6, these
seem destined for cable TV and home viewing rather
than cinemas, and while much is being made of the
fact that the films are in 3D, this is hardly a new
thing - both 1984's Emmanuelle 4
(arguably the last real film in the series) and 1994's
Emmanuelle in Space TV series were
also shot in three dimensions.
Sititzky
commented, "there is a need for a responsible
and honest film that addresses many relevant topics
that young adults as well as mature adults are faced
with of late. It may surprise some that Emmanuelle
is the modern messenger of such important issue. Though
much has changed from when the original was released,
the foundation of Emmanuelle has not...which is that
Emmanuelle is more than a character or a novel or
film. Emmanuelle is a way of life that celebrates
women. It is beautiful, stylish, feminine, thought-provoking
and powerful, as all women are created. This message
is one that is important now more than ever to instill
in women everywhere and of all ages."
Hmm.
The
latest actress to take on the role is adult performer
Allie Haze, who is appearing under her mainstream
name, Brittany Joy (which sounds more like a nom-de-porn
than the one she actually uses!). She follows in the
tradition of Americans Krista Allen and Holly Sampson
in taking the role once synonymous with sophisticated
Euro erotica.
