LINDSAY ULLMANN - BLOODSUCKER

Lindsay UllmannThis three-track EP shows potential; Ullmann seems to have a decent song writing ability and a solid set of pipes. But she’s badly let down by some rather lacklustre production that stops lead track Bloodsucker from reaching the heights it’s aiming for. It feels rather like a demo than a finished track, and so doesn’t achieve the Avril Lavigne pop rock sound it needs.

No Good Perfection is a slower and better song, a decent slice of AOR that perhaps lacks any stand-out elements, and again is marred by the flat, muddy sound – as is Cry Alone, a potentially commercial song that is effectively wrecked by the terrible sound, which allows the backing track to coagulate into a thorough mess.

Ullmann has definite talent, but really needs to work with someone who knows how to mix a record. If this is treated as a demo, she might yet make it, but as a stand-alone release, it doesn’t quite cut it.
