HOUSE OF HAMMER

House of Hammer was first published in 1976, just as Hammer Films were breathing their last. The magazine combined movie articles and reviews with comic strips - adaptations of Hammer movies, as well as the short shockers Van Helsing's Terror Tales, and the ocassional long-form original story. The magazine underwent a couple of title changes - to House of Horror with issue 19, then - after a US publisher beat them to that title - Halls of Horror. Unfortunately, it was all too late, and the magazine abruptly vanished after issue 23. It was later revived for a one-shot featuring strips drawn by regular cover artist Brian Lewis, and then came back as a full mag - quickly dropping the strips - for a brief run in the mid Eighties, unfortunately hampered by distribution problems and glossier competition.
