FILMRAGE
VOL. 2 NO. 1 / VOL. 2 NO. 2
Thomas Eikrem

It
might be called a magazine, but Filmrage puts
most film books to shame - an oversized, landscape format hardcover
clocking in at 120 full colour pages, this is a visual treat for
fans of exploitation cinema.
The text in the book is relatively throwaway, consisting of sharp,
short reviews of a variety of movies. If you are looking for deep
insight, you won't find it here. but that is hardly the point.
Where these books excel is in the visuals - Eikrem clearly has
a hefty collection of rare movie stills, and presents them here
as full page, gloriously lurid eye-poppers. The titles tell all:
Sister Emanuelle, Cleopatra Jones,
Truck Stop Women, Ilsa - Tigress of Siberia,
Brain Damage, Cannibal Ferox,
Foxy Brown and the covered-featured Mondo
Candido (shown here) are just a few of the movies covered
here.
There are errors - a few reviews turn up twice in the same volume,
which is unfortunate. But with such a surfeit of stunning images
on display, that's a small price to pay.
The cover price is not so small, it must be said - the books are
£55 a pop on the website, and that might be too steep for
many fans. But if you can afford it, then Filmrage
comes highly recommended.
