THE DIRT TRACKS - NEVER BEEN TO MARS

The Dirt Tracks - Never Been to MarsHmm. Spain’s ‘foremost live band’ (apparently) sound not unlike any jobbing British indie band, if we are to be honest. This is a vaguely catchy, entirely inoffensive and not overly memorable tune that bounces along nicely enough, but has little to distinguish it from similar stuff being ground out by big-in-their-home-town bands who will never trouble the consciousness of most people.

But there’s more to this band that perhaps meets they eye, as House of Dolls is more of a Muse / Radiohead hybrid, with epic pretensions – though the big sound is rather hampered by some muddy production – the band probably need a proper producer if they are going to match their musical ambitions. Closer The Square is cut from the same cloth, but less effective as a slice of neo-prog.

Still, these two backing tracks show potential that the more commercial lead song severely lacks. If they can restrain from pointless stabs at indie pop success, they might well be worth watching..
