AMERICAN
SPEEDWAY - A BIGGER BOAT
Prophase Records
If
you enjoy no-nonsense, fast ‘n’ furious rock ‘n’
roll, American Speedway might just have the album for you. This
is 24 minutes of full-on, relentless, thunderous, riff-laden stuff.
Existing somewhere on the fault line that separates punk and metal,
the band bring to mind the swagger of Nashville Pussy and Monster
Magnet, snippets of early Eighties dirty metal (like a pre-pop
Twisted Sister or, for anyone who remembers them, The Rods) and
with the speed and aggression of the best US punk.
With tracks including the Twin Peaks inspired
I Killed Laura Palmer, the crunching Call
Me Night Rider, Pennsylvania and Lonely
River, the band offer up a cracking, unstoppable selection
of high speed, sleazy rock.
There isn’t much variety here, but that’s probably
not what you’re looking for in an album like this. Instead,
it belts out a solid mix of grizzled vocals, slamming riffs and
wailing guitar solos that more than do the job. Play loud and
rock out...
